Our Story
We are the Tinneys - owners / managers / laborers / accountants / designers / animal caretakers of Ginger Pines Farm. We hope that when you receive something from Ginger Pines Farm, you can feel the pride, joy, sweat, and love that went into it. We are fairly new to the farm life but are loving every bit of this journey (except for the snakes, no one likes snakes).
Megan
Hello! I’m Megan – owner and main ginger of Ginger Pines Farms. I typically have a new life goal and dream every few months, but the one that’s stuck around the longest is living on a Christmas Tree Farm and being near the shore (not because I can actually sit on the beach to soak up the sun, but because the smell and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean bring on a sense of calm like none other). Add raising our family on a farm and growing cut flowers to the mix, and the ability to play in the dirt, grow something beautiful, share that beauty with others, and tap into that creative urge I’ve always had…woah, what a blessed life we have. You’ll see me outside on the farm, usually with a huge straw hat and wearing SPF 100, wrangling flowers, animals, and our spirited kids – but there is no place I’d rather be.
Fred
A man of few words but a huge support and partner in life and in farming – Fred has tolerated and encouraged some of Megan’s crazy ideas and even thrown in a few of his own. He is the mathematician, the lifter and mover of really heavy things, the irrigation figure-out-er, the one that will try and teach Megan how to drive a manual transmission, and the best landscape fabric hole burner in the business. In all seriousness, this farm is a labor of love and without him and his love, none of this would be possible. If you see him outside when you are driving by – honk your horn really loudly….you’ll get a wave in return. Oh, he is a ginger by way of his facial hair - it was red and now is gray (thanks kids).
The urchins
Our two spirited, wild kids that are carrying on the ginger gene – one more so than the other. Most days the kids love living on a farm. On others, they ask why we can’t live in a building with an elevator. We love seeing them learn new skills, nurture things that grow, take pride in our family and farm, and cherish any time when they are not fighting with each other.
The animals
We have 6 cats – yes, 6 of them. Megan does not like snakes – lifelong fear that is likely irrational but seriously, anything without feet should not move that fast. So when she saw a snake one day (on top of the mouse damage in the barn), clearly the solution to the problem would be to adopt 6 cats. Go big or go home, right? Result?? No mice or snakes seen since. Mission accomplished.
New in 2022 was the addition of chickens to the farm. We started with 12 and are down to 2. Unfortunately, the native hawks, foxes, and skunks have been well fed this year. A different plan of action will be needed for 2023.
What animal will we add next? Bunnies? Dogs? Pigs? Who knows. But it definitely wont be snakes.
